SUMMARY:Fill a Sweet Dreams Pillowcase At The Cathedral Center’s Emergency Shelter With Kids Impact Community
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, Nov. 29 from 5:30-6:15 pm at Cathedral Center 845 N Van Buren St\, Milwaukee 53202 \nFill a Sweet Dreams Pillowcase for youth living temporarily at The Cathedral Center’s emergency shelter. Many homeless families in Milwaukee are transient\, living in cars\, hotels\, or staying with friends or family members. The ongoing stress around housing uncertainty can lead to an increase in mental health problems among children\, including anxiety\, depression\, and behavioral issues. \nThe Cathedral Center works to provide a safe environment for unaccompanied women and families with children experiencing homelessness. Through an emergency shelter and a flexible housing program\, The Cathedral Center provides a space for our community’s most insecure to heal and receive the workforce development and other services they need to set and achieve goals to regain independence. \nInvite your kiddos to go shopping or encourage them to ask friends and family to collect the following items to fill their Sweet Dreams pillowcase: \nBlanket (crib size or smaller; must be new)\nStuffed Animal (medium size that can still fit in a standard pillowcase; must be new)\nBook (age-appropriate children’s book to encourage reading and family bonding)\nA note/card\nHandmade pillowcases will be provided. \nDrop off items and stuff your pillowcase by Nov. 28 at a leader home in Bayside at a time that works for you. The address will be provided following registration. \nOR\, we have room for 10 individuals to join us at the Cathedral Center for a tour and deliver the Sweet Dream Pillowcases. We’ll read the book\, A Place to Stay: A Shelter Story by Erin Gunti\, and hear about the Cathedral Center’s mission. SUMMARY:Intergenerational Playgroup at Saint John's on the Lake
DESCRIPTION:October 19\, 2023 / November 16\, 2023 / January 18\, 2024 from 1:30-2:15 pm \nJoin us for another year of cherished experiences with your children and the friends from St. John’s Senior Living Community. These monthly playgroups follow simple structured play for 45 minutes. This is a great chance for your little one(s) to get out and meet new kids and brighten the day of seniors. By joining these playgroups you and your children will learn patience\, kindness\, and the chance to make new friends. Our friends at Saint John’s benefit tremendously from the interaction with our children. \nAt each playgroup\, we follow the same structure to help children and residents alike become familiar and comfortable in the playgroup. We begin with a hello song followed by a book\, a craft\, and an activity. If time permits\, we will have free play followed by our goodbye song. We always have a new fun theme each month! \nChildren will develop awareness of and relationships with members of the community they would otherwise not meet. Residents in the assisted living facility will have a chance to be around our energetic and humorous cutie-pies and offer their love and gentle care for them. \nWe are encouraging participants to sign up for an entire fall session if possible. If there are only a few dates you can make\, please let us know. Signing up for a session helps the residents see familiar faces and helps to ensure participation in our playgroup.
